adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Leonidas has found his people! His story: It's hard to imagine how so much love can fit into such a small body, but Leonidas shows us that it is possible. We managed to rescue the magical guy from the public shelter in Zalau and hope to find him a quick home. The conditions in the shelter are of course terrible for all the dogs, but Leonidas suffers especially badly. He can barely tolerate being in the kennel and can't seem to settle down. He clearly shows us that he wants to get out and share his love. And Leonidas can really do that. He not only loves getting attention but also very impressively shows how close he wants to be to us humans by crawling into your arms and wanting to be held like a baby. The very loving male dog is also getable with his fellow animals and walks well on a leash. Leonidas, at 3 years old, is already out of puberty and has a delicate appearance measuring 42 cm and 7 kg, which is easy to handle. With his slight underbite, the little guy looks especially cute. Of course, it might be that Leonidas can't do much of what we expect from our dogs, and so it will certainly take patience and some time for him to learn, for example, how to be alone. Leonidas would also surely enjoy attending a positively working dog training class, where he can not only learn the dog ABCs but also play with his doggy friends. Leonidas will be microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas in his new home. He will of course bring his EU pet passport with him. For an adoption fee of 500 Euro and only after a positive assessment, the handsome male dog would also be happy with a foster placement. Many thanks, Silvie S.! You gave Leonidas his name. As of: 23.04.

Vielen Dank Silvie S.! Du hast Leonidas seinen Namen geschenkt. Stand: 23.04.2024

About Leonidas

What life with Leonidas looks like

Leonidas is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Leonidas, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Leonidas?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Leonidas on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Leonidas if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Leonidas already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Leonidas isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Leonidas and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
