Adopt Lester

German Shepherd · Male

Origin / Location: Ubeda Character: kind and friendly, oriented towards people, compatible with other dogs New home: patience, time, no expectations, a garden would be nice Adoption fee: 450 euros including transport Most people are always looking for "the" special dog, the one that looks unique. The one that makes an impression visually. Yes, the character should also fit, but he should also be good-looking. Then you are willing to accept a few problems that don't really stand out behind the great look. And then there are dogs that look rather ordinary and don't stand out from the crowd. One of them is Lester (born around 08/2019, 65 cm). He is a German Shepherd mix, that's all you can say about him visually. Either you like it or you don't even notice him. We got to know Lester with completely different eyes and especially the German Shepherd in him can bring many good qualities. Lester was very pleased in a very pleasant and calm way that we took him out of the animal shelter for a walk. As if someone finally saw him. He was very interested in his surroundings, but still had an open ear for the other end of the leash. Near the person he was very relaxed, allowed himself to be led easily and reacted very casually and finely to human body language. In contact with other dogs, we experienced him without complications. He showed no great interest and was happy about the feedback of the person during that time. We really hope that someone recognizes what a great guy is behind Lester. Lester could travel to Germany completely vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed and tested for Mediterranean diseases on the next occasion. So far, Lester is intact and we would also place him like that. Due to heat female dogs, however, the group composition with neutered dogs on site is easier.

About Lester

What life with Lester looks like

Lester is a large adult german shepherd dog waiting at Franz von Assisi Hundenothilfe e.V. (Hunde ohne Lobby) in Vilseck.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lester, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lester?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Franz von Assisi Hundenothilfe e.V. (Hunde ohne Lobby) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lester on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lester if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Franz von Assisi Hundenothilfe e.V. (Hunde ohne Lobby) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lester already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lester isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Franz von Assisi Hundenothilfe e.V. (Hunde ohne Lobby) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lester and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
