Loki

Kangal · Male · Puppy

Loki is a male Kangal mix born in May 2025. He came to us with his sister Lumi. Unfortunately, the two were introduced to Germany much too young and without valid vaccinations, and were then seized. To fatten them up and complete their quarantine period, the two were housed with us, and they are now ready to start their future. Loki will be typically quite large as a Kangal and requires a home with plenty of space, a yard, or at least a large garden, and ideally a job. A fence is not necessary, but we highly recommend dog training classes to make up for the missed time. Loki is age-appropriate in terms of being wild, alert, friendly to his people, and ready to learn "Hunde1x1." Loki is not a dog for beginners; we are looking for experienced dog owners with any prior knowledge of the "Kangal" breed. Update March 2026: Loki’s second testicle did not descend and so he had to be neutered as a "cryptorchid." He remains an extremely friendly and affectionate dog who, at times, shows that he is guarding his territory and alerting to strangers. We are looking for people who can give Loki a job and have enthusiasm for working with this wonderful, young dog. Update April 2026: Unfortunately, Loki received a bad X-ray result. He has bilateral hip dysplasia. His hip heads have developed well, but his hip sockets have not. What does this mean for Loki: He will receive additional supplements to support his bones, connective tissue, and muscles, and will start physiotherapy immediately. For him, it is extremely important to build up muscle in the hip area to support his bones and provide stability. We are looking for the "needle in the haystack" for Loki, new owners who will take him as he is, despite his condition, and continue to support him with physiotherapy and at-home exercises. Only then can Loki lead an almost normal life. As an animal welfare association, we would continue to support the new owners with veterinary and physiotherapy costs. We sincerely wish for Loki to finally find a home where he can be loved and accepted, for the wonderful dog that he is.

About Loki

What life with Loki looks like

Loki is a large puppy/kitten kangal dog waiting at Tierheim Plattling in Plattling.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Loki, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Loki?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Plattling handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Loki on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Loki if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Plattling will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Loki already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Loki isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Plattling early rather than rehoming privately; they know Loki and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
