Monsen Loomis (f. 01/06-2014) Hann | 11 years old | Gets along with big kids | Gets along with other animals Loomis came to the animal protection society together with the tomcat Lenny after being abandoned by his previous owners. He is an older gentleman with a long gray coat and white markings. We call him Tom, because he looks a bit like the cat in Tom and Jerry. He is a cat of average size. He loves food and treats and runs to you when he knows there is food in the air. Get to know Loomis better We have not had small children in the house so we do not know how he will react to them, but we have had children from 6 years old and up, and it seems that he finds it perfectly fine. He lives together with a 4-year-old tomcat at the moment. So he can probably live with other cats. He has only met one dog (a small breed that was calm) and he got scared and was not pleased that the dog was in the house. Loomis is quite talkative and meows at us constantly. He is not very eager to be in a cage, but can certainly come onto the sofa if there are treats going on, sometimes he lies down a bit in the bed next to us. He purrs when he gets affection. He is also super easy to handle. No problem to lift, brush and trim claws. His favorite place is in the cat tree, where he spends a lot of time. Although he is 11 years old, he is very fond of playing. His favorite is the fishing rod. Loomis will probably thrive best in a home where he is allowed to go out. He is always by the windows, and cautiously tries to sneak past when doors are opened. Loomis is microchipped, vaccinated, neutered and has had a health check and deworming. Animal Protection Norway Tromsø charges an adoption fee of 2000 kroner for all adult cats, this amounts to less than half of what a private individual would pay in veterinary costs for microchipping, vaccination and neutering of a cat. The package price at the veterinary clinics in Tromsø for a male cat is about kr. 4000, while for a female cat you have to pay about kr. 6000. So you save a lot of money by getting a cat from Animal Protection! Those interested can contact

About Loomis

What life with Loomis looks like

Loomis is a large senior mixed breed cat waiting at Dyrebeskyttelsen Norge Tromsø in Tromsø.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇳🇴Adopting from Norway

Norwegian rescues require thorough background checks. Animals leave with a Nordic pet passport and full vetting. Norway is outside the EU so import rules differ slightly — TRACES applies.

Frequently asked

Adopting Loomis, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Loomis?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dyrebeskyttelsen Norge Tromsø handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Loomis on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Loomis if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dyrebeskyttelsen Norge Tromsø will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Loomis already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Loomis isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dyrebeskyttelsen Norge Tromsø early rather than rehoming privately; they know Loomis and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NO). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
