Mable

Maltese · Female · Senior · 13 years

Mabel or Maybe as she is lovingly called has had a tough life. As an approximately 3-year-old dog she came from Slovakia to Germany with a family but quickly lost them and ended up at her last owner. There she lived well for many years until fate struck and didn't spare Maybes owner either. Under human suffering, animals also suffer so it happened to Maybe as well. Now the little, funny, lively and friendly dog is in our shelter. She has veterinary care, good food, a complete dental treatment behind her and enjoys regular walks because the 13-year-old dog is fit and agile and loves being on the go. What she hates most about the shelter is that no one sits with her around the clock. Because Mable can't be left alone for even a minute, as soon as you leave her room, she barks and barks and barks and does so very extensively - for hours. That's why we are looking for a home for the little Havaneser/Maltese mix where someone is always there, she can take everywhere with her or nobody minds if she makes an alarm once in a while. She should never be left alone for more than 1-2 hours. Best just never, if it's up to Mable. Other dogs in the house wouldn't be a problem but they don't prevent barking. Cats are on the menu for Mable and shouldn't be present. She loves children just like all other people of any age as well. She loves sleeping on laps and seeks close contact with her humans. A place on the couch is therefore absolutely necessary. But she is not a handbag dog. She has four healthy paws that she likes to use and also quickly gets around on. Maybe needs breed-typical a lot of skin and hair care, she was completely neglected when she came to us and had to be shaved down to the skin. Her pretty white fur is now slowly growing back. If you are looking for a small, lively, faithful dog lady for some more years together, Mable is just right.

DE·Show original

About Mable

What life with Mable looks like

Mable is a small senior maltese dog waiting at Tierschutz Eutin und Umgebung e.V. in Eutin.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mable, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mable?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Eutin und Umgebung e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mable on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mable if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Eutin und Umgebung e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mable already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mable isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Eutin und Umgebung e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mable and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
