Madame

European Shorthair · Female

I am Madame, 5.5 years old and beautiful. I was unfortunately from a very bad home and was luckily rescued and brought to the animal shelter. At first, I didn't find it better. But now I have a big room, a lot of space and even some outdoor time. I didn't know that before, but I like the fresh air. I can also observe the colorful activity outside, which is exciting. Because I hate boredom. I was also very greedy and would have even stopped at a trash can. Here I get a lot of food - even at night from a small box that opens twice - so I'm more relaxed about that. Otherwise, I'm still a bit restless and anxious. That's probably because of my history, which I still have to process. I actually like to cuddle and seek the company of people - and then everything becomes too much for me and I grumble to myself. That's why they gave me the nickname "Grummelpöttchen" - "Madame Grummelpöttchen". You can imagine that I want to get rid of the name quickly. And my caregivers and staff are working on that now. And I am actually getting a little calmer from day to day. I must have had a seat bone fracture in my old home that was never treated. That's why I walk a bit crooked, but I don't have any pain. That was examined (I could have told my people right away...).

Huch, was gucken Sie mein Bild so lieb an? Wollen Sie mich kennenlernen?

About Madame

What life with Madame looks like

Madame is a large adult european shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim Uhlenkrog Kiel in Kiel.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Madame, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Madame?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Uhlenkrog Kiel handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Madame on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Madame if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Uhlenkrog Kiel will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Madame already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Madame isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Uhlenkrog Kiel early rather than rehoming privately; they know Madame and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
