Maks

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 2 years

Maks is looking for his home – with people who truly understand him Maks is a real German Hunting Terrier – brave, full of energy, clever, and with a big heart for “his” people. Currently, he lives in a foster home and is waiting there for someone who not only finds him cute but truly wants him – with everything that makes him who he is. Because yes: Maks is no beginner dog. His prey drive is strong – outside, he is often “in his own world.” Mice, horses, other dogs: everything is exciting. Off-leash is currently not possible; the bond is not quite there yet. Additionally, he is very springy and would take every opportunity to run off if not securely fastened. Cats are absolutely off-limits to him. But: Maks is developing. Every day. He is learning to regulate himself better, becoming more stress-resistant, and coming to rest more often. The tail-chasing has become rare. His past has left its mark: at first, he only ate when his people stood right next to him – out of fear of being left. This insecurity is slowly diminishing. He is making progress: “Sit” and “Stay” are getting better, and in a quiet environment, he already knows how to respond when called. He loves being there. Car rides? Great. As long as they are with his people. And when he calms down, he shows his other side: cuddly, clingy, and simply enjoys being close. With other dogs, he is basically compatible, but currently still barks loudly when he sees them. What Maks is looking for is not just “it will work out somehow.” He is looking for people with experience, patience, and clear leadership – ideally, fellow breed enthusiasts or hunters who will take him in and further develop him. What he gives in return? A loyal, sensitive, and incredibly lovable companion who simply wants to belong.

DE·Show original

Was er dafür gibt?

About Maks

What life with Maks looks like

Maks is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Fellnasen Stuttgart e.V. in Stuttgart.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maks, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maks?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fellnasen Stuttgart e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maks on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maks if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fellnasen Stuttgart e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maks already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maks isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fellnasen Stuttgart e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maks and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
