Margo

Dachshund · Unknown

Margo – Helensburgh, Scotland Female Shaded Red 9 years Neutered Margo is a sweet and gentle dachshund who is looking for a loving new home. She currently lives happily alongside other dogs and cats and has a calm, affectionate nature. Sadly, her owners have made the difficult decision to rehome her as their busy lifestyle no longer meets her needs. Margo enjoys car journeys, loves going for walks, and is happiest when snuggled up under a cosy blanket, just as a Dachshund should be. Margo finds busy households and unfamiliar visitors overwhelming. She has previously bitten male visitors on occasion when feeling uncomfortable, so we are looking for an understanding home that can manage her environment and recognise when she needs space. For this reason, Margo would be best suited to a quiet, child-free home with few visitors and owners who can provide a calm and predictable routine. Margo can be left comfortably for up to four hours and would thrive with someone who can give her the time, patience and understanding she needs. In return, she will be a loyal and loving companion who enjoys walks, adventures in the car, and plenty of cosy cuddle time Requirements in a home Adult only, quiet but active home with minimal visitors Could live with other small dogs Can live with cats Adoption fee is £250 If you can offer Margo her forever home please contact

About Margo

What life with Margo looks like

Margo is a small adult dachshund dog waiting at The Red Foundation in Pentlow Street.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Margo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Margo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. The Red Foundation handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Margo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Margo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — The Red Foundation will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Margo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Margo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with The Red Foundation early rather than rehoming privately; they know Margo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
