Adopt Marta

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 8 years

Marta probably had a home once. What then happened, we can only guess. Maybe she became unexpectedly pregnant, grew out of her cute puppy stage, or people just got tired of her. In any case, she had to survive alone on the streets for years. She probably never understood what she did wrong and why she was left behind. Life on the street is hard, especially as a female dog. Marta became pregnant and gave birth to 11 puppies. She gave everything to get her small little ones through. But against the overwhelming enemy, parvovirus, Marta had nothing to offer. Nine of her puppy children died in her arms, only the sweet Kouki managed to survive and has fortunately already found a wonderful home. Marta quickly realized that life in the animal shelter is much safer and happier than street life. At first, she carefully and lovingly took care of 5 small puppies who had to grow up without a mother. Marta simply has a big mother's heart. Marta had one eye removed because she had a severe injury. The wound healed well and Marta copes well with the situation. Now nothing stands in the way of starting a new life, except for the right people with a lot of experience with former street dogs. Marta is a cheerful, gentle being that is satisfied with little. She is familiar with living with people, but currently prefers to observe them from a distance in the animal shelter. Only the feeding hand from which she takes treats does she accept. It will take some time until she warms up and regains trust in people. For now, she keeps her distance and prefers to observe everything from afar. But with intensive training by top experienced people, Marta will one day become a dream dog, but it will take a lot of time and perseverance.

About Marta

What life with Marta looks like

Marta is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina in Berlin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Marta, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Marta?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Marta on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Marta if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Marta already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Marta isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina early rather than rehoming privately; they know Marta and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
