Maxima – a little shepherd dog with a curly mane and a heart as big as the world 🖤 .fusion-body .fusion-builder-column-306 > .fusion-body .fusion-flex-container .fusion-imageframe.imageframe-35 img{aspect-ratio:1 / 1;object-position:35% 45%;} .fusion-body .fusion-builder-column-307 > Location: Animal shelter in Bosanski Brod, Bosnia and Herzegovina Breed: Croatian Shepherd Mix Date of birth: approx. June 1, 2025 Shoulder height: approx. 45 cm / approx. 20 kg Compatibility with cats unknown Single or second dog Ideal environment: Suburban, rural Suitable for: Ambitious first-time dog owners .fusion-body .fusion-button Go directly to self-disclosure .fusion-body .fusion-builder-column-308 > .fusion-body .fusion-flex-container .fusion-gallery-35 .fusion-body .fusion-builder-column-309 > .fusion-body .fusion-flex-container When you see Maxima for the first time, you can't help but wonder: How can such a special dog still be waiting for her forever home? With her black, slightly curly coat, attentive pricked ears, and curious gaze, she looks like a little mix of shepherd dog, teddy bear, and goblin. Especially her fluffy, curly fur makes her a real eye-catcher—as if the wind had decided to give her a new hairstyle every single day. ✨ But Maxima is not only special-looking. The young dog was rescued from the street as a puppy. While her sister has long since found her happy ending, Maxima is still waiting for someone to finally notice her. And yet, she has everything you could wish for in a companion dog. Maxima loves people. She thrives on attention, enjoys cuddles, and approaches life with a huge dose of curiosity and joy. She’s playful, open, and would love to be involved in everything. Currently, she gets along well with other dogs in a group of about ten. She gets along great with her peers, but she knows exactly what she wants and can sometimes come across as a bit assertive. She happily accepts confident leadership. At around 45 cm in shoulder height and weighing about 20 kg, Maxima is one of the compact medium-sized dogs. A few kilos less wouldn’t hurt her, but that’s something we can work on together—after all, exercising with the right people is twice as much fun! 😉 We suspect Maxima is a Croatian Shepherd Mix (Hrvatski Ovčar). This rare breed is considered intelligent, eager to learn, people-oriented, and hardworking. Croatian Shepherds love being active alongside their humans and getting tasks to do. That’s why we’re looking for people who enjoy giving Maxima both physical and mental stimulation. Long walks, hikes, nosework, search games, trick training, or dog sports would surely bring her great joy. She’s not looking for a high-performance career, but rather people who are excited to experience things together and show her the world. At the moment, we don’t know whether Maxima gets along with cats. Of course, this can be tested if there’s serious interest. Maxima has been waiting for so long now—maybe even way too long. And yet, she’s managed to keep her zest for life, her openness, and her love for people. All she needs now is one thing: a home where she’s no longer the one left behind—but the one who belongs. Who will fall in love with this beautiful curly-haired lady and show her what it feels like to have a real home? .fusion-body .fusion-button Interested in adopting? Maxima wartet nun schon so lange. About Maxima

What life with Maxima looks like

Maxima is a small young adult german shepherd dog waiting at Nordic Strays e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maxima, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maxima?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Nordic Strays e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maxima on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maxima if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Nordic Strays e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maxima already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maxima isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Nordic Strays e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maxima and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
