Maximus

Male · Adult · 7 years

Health status: enlarged liver (currently taking medication for this condition). Maximus is a young Jagdterrier-type dog who exudes energy and joy of life, just as befits his breed. He loves long walks—these are not only a form of exercise for him but also a way to calm his emotions. He’s the perfect companion for forest walks and runs. When there are no other dogs nearby, Maximus is very eager to cuddle and enjoy some tender moments. Although he’s not a large dog, he can surprise you with his strength—during walks, he sometimes pulls on the leash, especially when something catches his interest. He has a strong hunting instinct, which is why he doesn’t get along well with other animals—particularly cats. We believe that in a home environment, Maximus will gradually calm down from his high-energy state; however, at the moment, walks are challenging—he reacts by barking and pulling on the leash when he encounters dogs, cats, or any other animals. On the other hand, street traffic and urban surroundings don’t seem to bother him much—he handles these conditions extremely well. For Maximus, we’re looking for a home that is: – patient and stable, understanding of a terrier’s needs; – active and willing to work on helping Max calm down; – located in a quiet neighborhood close to green spaces; – free of other pets.

PL·Show original

About Maximus

What life with Maximus looks like

Maximus is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu in Poznan.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maximus, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maximus?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maximus on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maximus if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maximus already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maximus isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maximus and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
