Melle

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy

Melle is looking for her home - intelligent, sensitive and full of potential. Melle is a young female dog with a special character. Originally from Bulgaria, she is currently staying with a foster family in Germany and shows herself to be a quiet, attentive and eager to learn companion. In daily life, Melle is well-balanced: she enjoys walks very much, but spends most of her time in the house relaxed and calm. Melle is generally compatible with other dogs - whether male or female and regardless of size. However, she shows territorial tendencies around her sleeping area, which is why she is looking for a home with experienced dog owners who can provide her with clear structures and security. Melle initially meets strangers with reserve or suspicion. She prefers to observe from a distance rather than initiate direct contact. Once she has gained trust, she shows her very loving and attached side and wants to live closely with her person of attachment. She gets along well with cats and behaves neutrally towards them. She also enjoys being brushed. Being alone is already possible for her in her familiar environment for up to about an hour. Due to her origin, appearance and behavior, it is assumed that Melle is a mix of the Karakachan (Bulgarian herding dog) - although the proportion is probably relatively small. Nevertheless, she brings typical characteristics such as vigilance, independence and sensitivity, which should be taken into account in her education. For Melle, we are looking for a home in a rural area with a garden, with people who enjoy spending time with her intensively. In addition to walks, she definitely needs mental stimulation - currently, balance training and ground work are already being done, which she accepts well. A visit to a dog school is recommended in the long term. Melle is not an "beginner's dog", but for the right people, an incredibly loyal, gentle and special companion. DE·Show original

About Melle

What life with Melle looks like

Melle is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Melle, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Melle?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Melle on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Melle if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Melle already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Melle isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Melle and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
