Mercedes

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Female · Adult · 5 years

I am an enthusiastic lady of breeding. You can tell that from my name, right? My adventure didn't start so well: I was rescued from a very hot car. Luckily, I ended up at DOA and now I'm looking for a nice, loving home. I have learned a lot already, but taking it easy when someone likes me? That doesn't come naturally to me yet. I love cuddling, like to snuggle on laps and give lickings to hands and faces without hesitation. Sometimes I jump up at people to get attention, that's something I'm still working on! New things or unexpected movements can be a bit scary for me. Then I look for support from you. When I feel uncertain, my need for closeness can be quite strong. Sudden noises can startle me, but nothing is as frightening as an umbrella that suddenly opens! Playing? That's great! Especially with balls: I like to run after them, but only return if I get something in return, such as another ball or something else. I also enjoy playing with a ball myself or chewing on it. Flossing ropes interest me only when you hold the other end, then I want to pull nicely! Letting go is something I still need to learn, because if you're not paying attention, I jump up to grab the rope and start pulling enthusiastically. Being alone is not my thing. Whether that's on a leash or in the car, I just don't feel like it anymore. Outside, I really focus on you: I regularly seek contact, can sit nicely waiting and love treats. Brushing is new to me and still feels a bit scary, I guess that hasn't been done before. But since I lose small hairs, it's best to learn that slowly. Climbing stairs? No problem! I fly up so quickly! Just be careful when going down, because I might pull you along. The elevator is still a bit scary for me, but with some patience, that will come in time.

Hoi!

About Mercedes

What life with Mercedes looks like

Mercedes is a small adult staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam in Amsterdam.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mercedes, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mercedes?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mercedes on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mercedes if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mercedes already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mercedes isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mercedes and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
