Mick

Dogo Argentino · Male · Young · 1 year

Mick is a young German Shepherd x Dogo Argentino mix, born on 25-12-2025. He can get along with other dogs (yes), but not with cats (?). He needs a house with a garden to live in and is suitable for families with children aged 12+. Mick is the younger brother of Michael and Charly, who are also from the same litter. Charly was previously given up and later became a stray dog that wasn't picked up again. Their father is a working line German Shepherd and their mother is an Argentine Dog who is deaf. We can confirm that Mick is not deaf. Mick is generally a friendly young man. He responds well to all caregivers and is more open than Michael. He is curious, seeks contact with people, and loves meat treats. Be careful not to get your fingers eaten, but he will give you his full attention when you offer him treats. He knows the command "sit" and can lie down on cue. When he's engaged in something and you talk or pet him, he starts wagging his tail more. Mick is sensitive to voice commands and enjoys being around people. Mick is still growing and is already quite large. As an adult, he will be a sturdy dog, so it's essential that the people who adopt him can physically handle him. He needs active people to challenge him mentally and physically. A house with a garden is necessary for his well-being.

About Mick

What life with Mick looks like

Mick is a large young adult dogo argentino dog waiting at Dierenasiel Genk in Genk.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mick, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mick?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Genk handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mick on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mick if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Genk will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mick already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mick isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Genk early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mick and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
