Adopt Mickey

Mixed Breed Cat · Male · Adult · 9 years

Meet Mickey, a handsome chap with a big personality and an even bigger heart hidden beneath his spicy little diva exterior. Mickey likes to take his time getting to know new people, but once you’ve earned his trust, he transforms into an affectionate lovebug… with just a sprinkle of sass to keep life interesting. This quirky boy has a way of making you laugh, even when he’s being dramatic. Whether it’s his cautious little habits or the way he suddenly decides affection is acceptable, Mickey’s personality is impossible not to adore. While in our care, he’s been slowly learning to trust us more each day. He clearly wants friendship and affection, even if he sometimes gets nervous and backs out at the last second. Recently, he’s started rubbing his face against our chins, a huge milestone for this sensitive gentleman. Mickey has spent his entire life as an indoor only cat in a quiet, relaxed home with his previous owner, who sadly passed away. For the past 9 years, he’s enjoyed the peaceful bachelor lifestyle, and he would much prefer to continue being the king of his castle. Mickey is looking for a calm adult-only home with no other animals, where he can settle in at his own pace and build a bond with someone patient and understanding. Underneath the spice and quirks is a sweet soul who simply deserves a second chance at love and security and he’ll be absolutely worth it.

About Mickey

What life with Mickey looks like

Mickey is a extra-large adult mixed breed cat cat waiting at Animal Concern Cumbria in Egremont.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mickey, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mickey?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Concern Cumbria handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mickey on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mickey if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Concern Cumbria will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mickey already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mickey isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Concern Cumbria early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mickey and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
