Adopt Monty

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

Monty – male dog, mixed breed, born October 2019 (not neutered) Monty seeks a understanding home where he can settle in and build trust. Background: Monty came to us because his previous owners unfortunately could not keep him after a separation. Character: Monty is a curious and lively dog who loves to explore the world. During an initial get-to-know-you phase, he shows a strong people-oriented and clingy side. He forms a close bond with his trusted people but needs some time to build trust – once the trust is established, he enjoys closeness and affection very much. Basic commands like “sit” and “stay” are already mastered. Health: Monty had to have almost all his teeth removed due to a severe gum infection and significant tartar buildup – only his canines (Canini) remain. It is possible that these may also need to be removed at some point in his life. The surgery went well, he is pain-free, and he manages his meals very well. He is currently not vaccinated – this will be caught up soon. Special needs: Monty feels uncomfortable when someone bends down over him from above. Therefore, it is important to respect his body language and give him a sense of security. He is familiar with wearing a muzzle for a short time. Social behavior: At the animal shelter, Monty has a close female dog friend whom he strongly looks to for guidance. A confident second dog in the new home would be a good fit for him, as she could provide additional security. Wished-for home: For Monty, we are looking for dog-experienced people with patience and empathy. Due to his partly insecure behavior, we do not place him in homes with small children. Teenagers who handle him respectfully are, however, possible. A quiet environment without much pressure helps him develop trust and become a loyal companion.

About Monty

What life with Monty looks like

Monty is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Mönchengladbach in Mönchengladbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Monty, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Monty?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Mönchengladbach handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Monty on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Monty if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Mönchengladbach will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Monty already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Monty isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Mönchengladbach early rather than rehoming privately; they know Monty and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
