Nala's breed is prone to certain genetic conditions, including those affecting her ears due to the fold gene mutation (OCD). This can lead to cartilage and bone damage that causes her ears to droop, making it difficult for her to communicate with other cats and potentially leading to further health issues. Scottish Folds often have a shorter lifespan than other breeds. Die namensgebenden Faltohren entstehen durch einen Gen-Defekt (OCD). Knorpel- und Knochenschäden führen dazu, dass die Ohren abkippen. Dadurch ist nicht nur die innerartliche Kommunikation erschwert, sondern auch mit Folgeschäden zu rechnen, da natürlich nicht nur der Ohrknorpel in Mitleidenschaft gezogen ist. Häufig haben Katzen dieser Rasse eine kürzere Lebenserwartung. Schreiten die Schäden voran, kommt es unweigerlich zu Bewegungsschmerzen und der Mensch ist in der Verantwortung, zu erkennen, wann aus Lebensfreude Lebensqual wird.
