Nellie

Mixed Breed · Female · Kitten · 4 months

BREED: Domestic short hair IDEAL HOME: I would need access to the outdoors once I’ve settled LIVING WITH CHILDREN: I would prefer an adult only home LIVING WITH DOGS: I prefer not to live with dogs LIVING WITH CATS: I would prefer to be the only cat in the household Beautiful Nellie came into our care as a stray after some children discovered her giving birth under a bush. Thankfully, they alerted a neighbour who kindly took her in overnight and gave her somewhere safe to have her babies. Sadly, one of Nellie's kittens didn't survive, but she went on to raise four healthy kittens, who have now all found their forever homes. Now, it's hopefully Nellie's turn to find someone special who will give her the happy ending she deserves. Unfortunately, Nellie hasn't had the best start when it comes to socialisation with people, and the stress of giving birth in an unfamiliar home before arriving at the rescue the following day was a lot for her to cope with. Understandably, she has found the whole experience quite overwhelming. However, with plenty of time, patience and kindness, Nellie is slowly learning that humans can be a good thing! Her confidence is growing every day, and she has recently moved into one of our catteries. She is now quite happily coming out of her bed to watch the world go by and stretch her legs. These might seem like small steps, but for Nellie, they are wonderful signs of progress. Nellie isn't a cat who will immediately run up to greet you or demand attention. She needs someone who understands that trust takes time and who will allow her to come around at her own pace, without pressure or expectations. With the right person, we hope she will continue to grow in confidence and discover just how lovely life with a loving family can be. 🐾 Nellie's ideal home: A quiet, peaceful home where she can settle without too much noise or activity. No young children, as she needs a calm environment where she won't feel overwhelmed. Ideally, a home where she can be the only pet, allowing her to feel safe and secure. Patient, understanding owners who will let her approach them in her own time. A safe, comfortable space with hiding places, cosy beds and opportunities to explore when she feels ready. Nellie has already been through so much, and now that her kittens have all found their happily-ever-afters, we would love nothing more than for her to have that same opportunity. She doesn't need someone to change her overnight. She just needs someone willing to give her time, respect her boundaries and show her that she is safe. Could you be the person who gives Nellie the chance she so desperately deserves? Sometimes, the most rewarding bond is the one that takes a little longer to build. ❤️ Interested in adopting Nellie? About Nellie

What life with Nellie looks like

Nellie is a small kitten mixed breed cat waiting at SARA Ann Prosser Foundation in United Kingdom.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nellie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nellie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SARA Ann Prosser Foundation handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nellie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nellie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SARA Ann Prosser Foundation will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Nellie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nellie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SARA Ann Prosser Foundation early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nellie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
