Nelly

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 7 months

Nelly didn't have an easy start. No one fell in love with her as a puppy, no one gave her a chance to grow up with a human. She grew up in a shelter - and although it wasn't supposed to be this way, she didn't lose her confidence. This is a dog that walks firmly on the ground, knows what she wants and doesn't need a million caresses to be happy. She is looking for a home with rules, not a couch for exclusive use. For whom is this dog? For someone who understands that not every dog is a cuddler and that true love is also respect for boundaries. Nelly will fit in well with an active person, but not necessarily a marathon runner - she has a moderate energy level and likes joint walks. She will feel best with a caregiver who clearly shows the rules, but does it with sensitivity and calmness. You don't need to be a professional trainer, just patience, consistency and heart. Who are we looking for? We dream of a home where she will be an only child - she does not accept dogs or cats and does not intend to change this. She is an individualist and needs such space. People who count on evening cuddling sessions may be disappointed - Nelly is more of a "I walk my own way, but sometimes I'll come for a treat and check if everything is in order" type. At home, she should have clearly established rules and a routine that gives her a sense of security. She knows how to walk on a leash, she doesn't know the commands yet, but everything is ahead of her - in the right hands it's to be overcome. What's worth knowing about her? She is a strong, brave dog who is dealing with health problems. Due to a chronic, painful inflammatory condition of the ears, it was necessary to remove the ears. Despite many attempts at treatment, classical methods did not bring improvement, which is why surgery was necessary. Additionally, Nelly suffers from hypothyroidism - she takes Forthyron medication permanently. This is a lifelong treatment, but it does not limit the dog in everyday functioning if it is well managed. Although she has no ears, she has a heart. Although she doesn't cuddle at the call, she has peace and strength in her. Nelly deserves a home no less than any other dog. To indywidualistka i takiej przestrzeni potrzebuje. About Nelly

What life with Nelly looks like

Nelly is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Fundacja Puszatek in Warszawa.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nelly, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nelly?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fundacja Puszatek handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nelly on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nelly if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fundacja Puszatek will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nelly already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nelly isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fundacja Puszatek early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nelly and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
