Newton

Lurcher Β· Male Β· Young Β· 1 year

Newton is a young Lurcher cross with bundles of energy who will need active new owners who are willing to take on a high energy dog. He is based at Battersea Old Windsor. Newton is a very affectionate dog with those he knows well but he can be worried when meeting new people, particularly men. He will benefit from owners who can help build his confidence by introducing him to new people at his own pace and walking him in quieter areas where he feels more comfortable. In his previous home, Newton found being left alone difficult and struggled when being on his own. Because of this he is looking for a home with more than one adult where someone is around most of the time and where any time spent alone can be built up gradually. Around other dogs, Newton can sometimes become vocal and frustrated, particularly when he's unable to greet them. He has already been working on his training and has been making good progress. Once he meets other dogs he is generally friendly and social and Newton could potentially live with another dog of a similar size who could act as a calm and positive role model. Newton enjoys playing with toys, especially squeaky ones and will happily chase after them. Using toys will be a good way for Newton to make friends with new people as well. Newton also struggles with vet visits and can find being overhandled uncomfortable. His new owners will need to be committed to continuing his training in these areas. Newton is a loveable boy that that will make a rewarding project for his new owners. About Newton

What life with Newton looks like

Newton is a medium-sized young adult lurcher dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Newton, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Newton?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Newton on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Newton if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Newton already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Newton isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Newton and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
