Nuts

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

Nuts was born around 03/2017, stands 40 cm tall and weighs approximately 11.1 kg. We unfortunately cannot say much about his past. He ended up in the kill shelter on the Azores, where a kind animal welfare volunteer rescued him. Based on his behavior, we believe he had a home there and was sadly abandoned. He has already been on a flight and has been living for several months at our partner shelter in Portugal. Nuts is an uncomplicated, big-hearted and very open-minded male dog. He is delighted to be around people, enjoys being petted and cuddled, and is not shy even around strangers. He is very friendly with other dogs and enjoys playing. Compatibility with cats can be tested upon request. Where will this lovable Nuts find a home where he can stay forever? We look forward to your inquiry! He has been examined by a veterinarian, dewormed, treated for fleas, microchipped, vaccinated, neutered, and tested for Mediterranean diseases including Leishmaniasis, and has an EU pet passport and Traces registration. The adoption fee is €595.

About Nuts

What life with Nuts looks like

Nuts is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierrettung International e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nuts, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nuts?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierrettung International e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nuts on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nuts if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierrettung International e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Nuts already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nuts isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierrettung International e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nuts and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
