Oki

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 9 years

Oki is a senior female cat (around 10-14 years old) who became lost after the death of her caregiver and ended up at a food station for homeless people. It soon became clear that she was disoriented due to her blindness. One thing was certain: she couldn't stay wandering around like that, so she came to us. Initially, it was thought that Oki was also completely deaf, but after she stayed with us for a few days, we noticed that she was fortunately still able to hear. At first, she growled out of fear when we touched her, but now she has calmed down and enjoys being petted. She eats like the best. To ensure that it was still humane to move her to a possible new home with adopters, we had her blood fully checked and it turned out that everything was still working very well. Only her kidney values were slightly elevated, and she is now receiving some support for that. We are looking for a quiet home for Oki where she can enjoy a stable environment, plenty of treats, and most of all, a lot of attention.

NL·Show original

About Oki

What life with Oki looks like

Oki is an adult mixed breed cat waiting at Het Dierenthuisje VZW in Geel.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Oki, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Oki?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Het Dierenthuisje VZW handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Oki on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Oki if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Het Dierenthuisje VZW will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Oki already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Oki isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Het Dierenthuisje VZW early rather than rehoming privately; they know Oki and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
