ONYX

Labrador Retriever · Male · Adult · 5 years

A beautiful black Labrador mix, Onyx, 5 years old, born April 4th, 2021. Onyx is vaccinated, microchipped, neutered and has a European passport. He is waiting in France. Onyx is a beautiful Labrador mix with soft, slightly longer fur, likely inherited from his Flat-Coat Retriever ancestors. In France, he is known as "golden noir," or black Golden Retriever. Born in April 2021, little else is known about his past. He is not shy around people, approaches them openly and friendly, and is breed-typically very affectionate. It's clear he hasn't been mistreated and knows basic commands. His owners likely lost their home and couldn't or wouldn't take him into an apartment. Onyx shares a drab kennel with a female dog; there are no problems between them. We can't test his compatibility with a male dog in the stress of a killing station, but when you walk past other dogs at the kennel, they don't bark at him; he is more interested in people. His coat has a beautiful deep black color, and the two white spots make him unique. Black dogs are often said to be hard to place. Fortunately, I'm finding more and more that not everyone shares this view. Who will give this wonderful dog a chance at a new life with a family? In Frankreich werden Sie -golden noir- genannt, also Golden Retriever in schwarz. About ONYX

What life with ONYX looks like

ONYX is a adult labrador retriever dog waiting at Tier-Not-Hilfe in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting ONYX, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about ONYX?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tier-Not-Hilfe handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw ONYX on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt ONYX if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tier-Not-Hilfe will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is ONYX already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if ONYX isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tier-Not-Hilfe early rather than rehoming privately; they know ONYX and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
