Oscar (SW)

Mixed Breed · Male

PS Sonya, born: 06/17, male dog. On PS since 05/25. Oscar was brought to our animal shelter by one of our animal protection colleagues on the island of La Pared in the Perera area, as his eyes revealed that he had given up on his chance for a better life. But we knew that in his last years, he deserved a chance at happiness. As soon as a spot became available, he was allowed to move into our private foster home Sonya. The poor fellow had a wound on his back, which, although treated by the vet, did not heal. Therefore, a tissue sample was taken and sent to the lab for testing. Unfortunately, the test revealed a malignant tumor. This was of course removed, and further tests showed that no metastases were present. And thus, Oscar deserves the chance to enjoy the happiness of a home of his own! Oscar is a gentle companion, and his favorite companion was Mora, a small female puppy, a 5 kg bundle of energy. They shared a spot and their licks for several weeks. Mora was fortunately adopted by a wonderful couple, but unfortunately, Oscar was left alone again. The handsome Barino is a bit of a foodie and picks his companions carefully when sharing his food. But he enjoys his freedom to run around on the property, as well as lots of love and licks. He follows his caregivers and is happy about petting and attention, as well as a comfortable bed in the shade. He makes short nature walks, but is always happier when he returns to the safety he now knows. For the dear Oscar, we are looking for people with a big heart for older dogs who have not experienced much beauty in their lives. Barinos belong to the herding dogs of the Canaries and are used there as herding, watch, and companion dogs. The corresponding protective instinct should be taken into consideration and not underestimated during adoption. Once one has the trust and love of a Barino, one gets a loyal friend for life. We would like Oscar to have new owners who are Barino enthusiasts, and ideally, his new home should be in a rural area with an enclosed yard. Oscar can now be microchipped, fully vaccinated, and tested for Mediterranean diseases to move into his new home. Who will open their doors to an overused soul that still deserves something beautiful in life? If you want to adopt Oscar, please contact us.

About Oscar (SW)

What life with Oscar (SW) looks like

Oscar (SW) is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierhilfe Fuerteventura in Dransfeld.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Frequently asked

Adopting Oscar (SW), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Oscar (SW)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Fuerteventura handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Oscar (SW) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Oscar (SW) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Fuerteventura will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Oscar (SW) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Oscar (SW) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Fuerteventura early rather than rehoming privately; they know Oscar (SW) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
