Osito

German Shepherd · Male · Young · 2 years

Mixed breed Osito – a young character dog is looking for his people. Osito is a young shepherd dog mix from Spain who is just starting to really settle in. You can see how he is finding peace, processing the past and all the new experiences, and increasingly orienting himself towards people – at his own pace, but with clear progress. He has been used to making decisions on his own or having to make them, but is learning more and more to orient himself towards people and follow them. With calm, clear and consistent guidance, he is very approachable and already shows how much potential he has. Osito is very people-oriented, open and friendly and actively seeks closeness. With other dogs, he is social and interested, but needs good companionship. His leash walking is developing well and is becoming increasingly stable. He likes riding in the car and can relax well there. Being alone works for several hours in the company of other dogs. Many environmental stimuli are still unknown to him and can sometimes make him insecure. Children in the new home are generally possible, but should be firm. Regarding his hunting instinct, Osito shows good initial approaches to redirecting his focus and is responsive, even though he is still at the beginning. Important for Osito is a quiet, structured environment with a clear point of reference, sufficient exercise and also meaningful mental work - for example in the appropriate dog sport. Osito is not a finished dog, but one with a lot of potential who will develop into a great companion with the right people. For Osito, we are looking for a rural home with a garden with people who have experience with dogs and enjoy working together on further development. It is welcome if another dog or even a cat already lives in the new home. Here goes Osito's video.

Allein bleiben klappt bereits einige Stunden in Hundegesellschaft.

About Osito

What life with Osito looks like

Osito is a young adult german shepherd dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Osito, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Osito?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Osito on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Osito if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Osito already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Osito isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Osito and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
