In the shelter since: June 2026 Estimated age: born around November 2020 Estimated shoulder height: approx. 50–59 cm Estimated weight: approx. 25–29 kg Meet Paddington right now in the video! In the shelter since: Month/Year Gender: Male/Female Estimated age: born around Month (written out)/Year Estimated shoulder height: approx. xx–xx cm Estimated weight: approx. xx–xx kg Special feature: Sanctuary placement/Disability (if none, delete) Meet (= link to video in gallery bar; text must match the text in the anchor) DOGNAME in another video! Paddington gives people a second chance. Will you give him one too? This furry friend comes from a kill shelter in Romania. He was visibly energetic and tired, always lying right at the front of the cage. We explain how dogs end up there—and much more—in our animal welfare FAQ. So far, Paddington has shown himself to be very relaxed around people. He enjoys every touch and repeatedly snuggles against his caregivers’ bodies. His tail wags almost constantly. Even when going for walks, he lets himself be easily fitted with a harness and leash and explores his surroundings. With dogs, it’s often sympathy that counts. This furry friend is new to the shelter. Our caregivers take time to get to know each dog and assess them carefully. Once we learn more about this furry friend’s character, we’ll update this profile. Of course, you can still fill out a self-disclosure form for this dog. We suspect that DOGNAME has some herding dog (HSH) in his lineage. Please find out here about the requirements for adopting a herding dog. HSH mixes are often very independent and need a confident leader. DOGNAME suffers from arthritis/hip dysplasia. For this reason, we’re looking for a home without many stairs to spare the dog any pain. (This furry friend will need medication for life.) DOGNAME has a scar on his muzzle. This is not uncommon in Romania. Many people there still believe today that burning a dog’s muzzle protects them from diseases. However, this scar doesn’t bother this furry friend in the slightest. DOGNAME has a docked ear/two docked ears/a docked tail. Many dogs in Romania have these parts cut off to make them look more intimidating. DOGNAME has a short tail. It’s unclear whether his tail was docked or is congenital. DOGNAME is currently underweight. On the streets or in kill shelters, animals usually get little or no food, causing them to become severely emaciated. But in the shelter, our furry friend is being fed more again and hopefully will soon reach a normal weight. DOGNAME is slightly overweight. Often, people mean well by feeding their dogs beyond their healthy ideal weight. At the shelter, however, our furry friend is allowed to lose a bit of weight so he can go into his new home slim and fit. Due to his health condition and advanced age, we’re looking for a sanctuary placement for this furry friend. With a sanctuary placement, higher veterinary costs are covered after consulting with the association, and the adoption fee is waived. This way, the dog has a better chance of finding a home where he can spend the rest of his life in peace and security. Because of this furry friend’s health condition, the adoption fee is waived. Our dogs with disabilities should have a better chance of finding a home where they can spend the rest of their lives in peace and security. OBLIGATION regarding medical findings (please delete) Our adoption team knows best about the exact health condition. If you have any further questions, feel free to send us a message. We’d like people who are aware that rescue dogs come with a certain history to adopt this furry friend. We can never predict in the shelter how a dog will react to life in Germany. That’s why we’re looking for people who bring patience, perseverance, and kindness. But one thing is certain: Whoever adopts instead of buying not only gives an animal a second chance but actively chooses to stand against animal suffering—and for a life alongside a truly special companion. Already smitten? Send us a self-disclosure form! Adoption If you’re thinking about adopting, first read through our adoption process. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, flea-treated, and neutered before leaving the shelter (with the exception of puppies up to 6 months old and very elderly dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are also tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any further questions, feel free to write to our adoption team.

About Paddington

What life with Paddington looks like

Paddington is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Paddington, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Paddington?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Paddington on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Paddington if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Paddington already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Paddington isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Paddington and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
