Pasa

Rottweiler · Male · Adult · 4 years

Pasa is a confident, alert male Rottweiler who originally came from a breeder and ended up at our animal shelter after being abandoned. Towards strangers, he initially displays the typical Rottweiler demeanor—keeping his distance and appearing somewhat wary. However, once he’s developed trust in his trusted humans, he reveals an entirely different side: He becomes friendly, attentive, and deeply affectionate. Even in the outdoor run, it’s clear how well he orients himself to his trusted caregivers: When you’re there as his trusted person and give him a clear signal, he trusts your guidance, allows himself to be led, and even accepts other people in the run. If he approaches someone on his own initiative, he happily welcomes petting and cuddles. That said, Pasa does have pronounced trust issues. Any situation that physically constrains or pressures him—such as putting on a collar, harness, or getting used to a muzzle—makes him extremely uneasy. If a situation feels too close for comfort, he’ll make this very clear—and in case of doubt, he might even take a step forward. Yet Pasa communicates very fairly: He always gives early warnings, allowing attentive people to recognize the situation in time and intervene appropriately to de-escalate it. Outdoors, Pasa shows great attentiveness and possesses a certain natural energy. With clear, calm leadership, however, he’s easy to guide. He’d be best suited to experienced, patient owners who understand dogs and have a fine sensitivity to body language. His future guardians should be prepared to build trust gradually and without pressure, and to reframe everyday routines—such as putting on equipment—in a positive, stress-free way. We’re delighted that you’re interested in Pasa. The best way to get started is to send us a direct inquiry expressing your interest. Then you’ll become Pasa’s sponsor. Of course, Pasa would also appreciate individual monetary and material donations.

DE·Show original

About Pasa

What life with Pasa looks like

Pasa is a large adult rottweiler dog waiting at Tierheim Karlsruhe in Karlsruhe.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires experienced handler due to protective nature and strong will

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pasa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pasa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Karlsruhe handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pasa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pasa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Karlsruhe will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pasa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pasa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Karlsruhe early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pasa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
