Adopt Patch

Collie · Male · Adult · 5 years

Patch is a truly special boy who has settled wonderfully into foster care and continues to make impressive progress every day. Although he is both blind and deaf, Patch has shown himself to be incredibly adaptable, learning his surroundings quickly and growing in confidence as he becomes more familiar with the world around him.Since arriving in foster care, Patch has embraced home life and now enjoys a relaxed daily routine. He has quickly worked out where his favourite beds and resting places are and can often be found happily snoozing, enjoying all the comforts that a loving home has to offer. One of Patch's most endearing qualities is his affectionate nature. He absolutely loves spending time with people and thrives on companionship, gentle fuss, and affection. He forms strong bonds with those who care for him and is happiest when included in family life. His loving personality shines through in everything he does, making him a wonderful companion.Patch has a great appetite, enjoys his food, and is always keen to head out for his daily walks. He walks nicely on lead and clearly enjoys exploring his surroundings through scent and touch. An active home that can offer regular exercise, enrichment, and opportunities to engage with the world at his own pace would suit him very well.Around the home, Patch is a delight to have around. He is generally calm and settled, sleeps well, and has adapted remarkably well to different environments, including overnight stays away from his usual foster home. While he can occasionally be a little clumsy, he navigates new spaces surprisingly well and quickly finds his feet.Patch is currently living with another dog and has shown himself to be a very social and emotionally aware boy. He is highly responsive to the behaviour and energy of the dogs around him and enjoys the company of calm, friendly canine companions. As a sensitive soul, he feels most comfortable around dogs who are relaxed and easy-going, helping him to feel confident and secure. We feel Patch could be very happy either as the centre of attention in his own home, enjoying plenty of love and companionship from his people, or sharing his home with a gentle, well-mannered dog who will be a reassuring friend.Patch is making encouraging progress with car travel and has already shown that he is capable of building confidence with the right support and reassurance. As a dog who takes great comfort from close companionship, he feels happiest when he can travel alongside his trusted people rather than being left alone or confined. He has coped particularly well when travelling on the back seat with his foster carer nearby, settling much more comfortably and enjoying the reassurance of familiar company. Patch will benefit from adopters who are happy to continue supporting him with positive, patient guidance as he develops his confidence further. The good news is that he settles quickly once journeys are over and soon returns to his usual calm, affectionate, and relaxed self.Patch is a loving, resilient boy with so much to offer the right family. He is looking for a patient and caring home where he can continue to flourish, enjoy plenty of companionship, and be treated as a much-loved member of the family. In return, he will reward his adopters with endless affection, loyal companionship, and the joy of watching a very special dog continue to grow in confidence.

About Patch

What life with Patch looks like

Patch is a adult collie dog waiting at RSPCA Cornwall Branch in Saint Columb.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Patch, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Patch?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RSPCA Cornwall Branch handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Patch on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Patch if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — RSPCA Cornwall Branch will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Patch already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Patch isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RSPCA Cornwall Branch early rather than rehoming privately; they know Patch and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (the shelter's own language). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
