Percy

Male Β· Adult Β· 5 years

EAST MIDLANDS Adoption fee Β£350 3.5 years old Male, tweenie, double dapple, 10kg Neutered 🩡 Meet Percy and his sky blue eyes. Percy is a loving boy who is looking for a calm forever home. Sadly his current home cannot provide this right now, so they have made the difficult decision to find Percy a new home where he is top priority. Percy is a gorgeous boy who thrives in the company of others (people and dogs!) and loves to play all day. Percy is a great all-round dachshund – he is as happy cuddling and snoozing on the sofa as he is on a long walk through the woods full of interesting scents. Percy would be happiest in a home with somebody home most of the time and he is able to live with sensible, older children – at the moment he can be left for up to 1 hour but this is a work in progress as he will tend to bark and cry. Outside the home, Percy has decent recall and enjoys his walks. He likes meeting and playing with other dogs and is generally well socialised. He is house-trained, and currently sleeps on his owner’s bed. As a double dapple, Percy may have health conditions related to his breeding in the future, but currently he is fit and well and we will discuss this with potential adopters. Above all else, Percy is looking for a loving and chilled home. Requirements for Percy’s new home: Home where someone is home much of the time Can live with sensible, older children (13+) Can live with resident dog following a successful introduction No cats For more information, please email

About Percy

What life with Percy looks like

Percy is a adult dog waiting at The Red Foundation in Pentlow Street.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Percy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Percy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. The Red Foundation handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Percy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Percy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” The Red Foundation will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Percy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Percy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with The Red Foundation early rather than rehoming privately; they know Percy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
