Adopt Peter

European Shorthair · Male · Senior · 11 years

over: 🍀 My name is Peter, and I lived on a farm until a few weeks ago. I was dropped off at a vet with a large abscess. The abscess was treated, and the vet also neutered me. A blood test revealed that I have diabetes. This means I must receive an insulin shot twice a day, 12 hours apart. My caregivers can give me the shot while I eat, and they say I'm an uncomplicated patient. You should feed me exclusively with diabetes food. Although it's a bit more expensive than regular food, you want me to be in good health, right? Unfortunately, I also have FIV, so I can't go back to the farm. Now I'm looking for responsible people who still want to spoil an old guy. I'm more of a quiet type; small children or other cats shouldn't live with you. To ensure I get my insulin shots regularly and to prevent other cats with FIV from getting infected, I should be kept as a house cat. A fenced-in balcony would be great. If you could fence in your garden securely, that would be even better. You also need to clarify something in advance!!! Do you have someone who can give me my insulin shots regularly if you're unavailable? My caregivers said I should mention that I always use the toilet properly and enjoy being stroked. If the caregivers have time and come into my room, I immediately make contact and snuggle up to them. What could be more beautiful for us cats than to snuggle with the people we like... If you're interested, feel free to contact this breed shelter and tell me a bit about yourselves!. This animal was surrendered to the shelter.

About Peter

What life with Peter looks like

Peter is a large senior european shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim Stuttgart in Stuttgart.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Peter, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Peter?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Stuttgart handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Peter on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Peter if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Stuttgart will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Peter already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Peter isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Stuttgart early rather than rehoming privately; they know Peter and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
