Pfeffer

British Shorthair · Male · Young · 2 years

Pfeffer came to our shelter as a found animal. Now the cat is looking for a new forever home. Pfeffer is a sweet and friendly tomcat who quickly gains trust with his cuddly nature and enjoys the closeness of his caregivers. He shows himself confident and knows exactly what he wants, but approaches people openly and engagingly. He is playful, lively and full of energy. However, Pfeffer can sometimes be a bit rough in play, which is why a good sense of his body language is important and he rather suits people who can handle it and set him clear, loving boundaries. Overall, he brings a lot of joie de vivre and loves to exert himself and engage in activities. For Pfeffer, it is particularly important to get outdoor access after an appropriate acclimatization period so that he can live out his urge for movement and his love of adventure. He is naturally litter trained. Pfeffer needs a quiet home without much hustle and bustle where he finds security and can relax. A relaxed environment helps him to be balanced and show his friendly nature. Whoever gives Pfeffer a loving home with outdoor access will receive a strong-willed, cuddly and lively tomcat who quickly inspires his people with his direct and honest way of being. If you would like to give Pfeffer a loving home, please send your completed self-assessment form (JavaScript must be enabled for the address). 01.07.2026 (kw) This animal comes from the mating with a representative of a breeding line that is considered a breeding line. The breeding-related morphological and/or physiological changes in so-called breeding lines can lead to behavioral disorders and are associated with physical suffering and pain for the animals. According to § 11b Animal Welfare Act, the breeding of such animals is prohibited. A characteristic of this breed is the breeding-induced strong shortening of the facial skull. This leads to a narrowing of the upper airways and the tear duct, inward turning of the eyelid edge as well as underbite, overbite and cross bite, which among other things can make eating extremely difficult. The wide skull makes natural birth difficult. If animals suffer anatomically, it is a breeding line. As advocates for animals, we reject these. Pet owners who support such breeding are acting irresponsibly.

About Pfeffer

What life with Pfeffer looks like

Pfeffer is a young adult british shorthair cat waiting at Hamburger Tierschutzverein in Hamburg.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pfeffer, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pfeffer?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hamburger Tierschutzverein handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pfeffer on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pfeffer if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hamburger Tierschutzverein will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pfeffer already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pfeffer isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hamburger Tierschutzverein early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pfeffer and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
