Adopt Pippilotta

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 8 years

In the summer of 2015, the wild boar Pippilotta, who lived on a Dortmund bio-farm as a Mastschwein, was rescued just before being slaughtered along with her friend Hermine. Originally, Nadja, who had come to rescue a pig, only wanted to save Pippilotta, but since Hermine had been separated from the humorously drawn Pippilotta, the animal welfare activists could not bring themselves to leave Hermine to her fate. So, in July 2015, the two friends moved into the foster home Schwefe in Soest and enjoyed two and a half years of carefree life in open-stall farming. Then, unfortunately, we were forced to give up the foster home Schwefe. In April 2018, our pigs moved to the Hochsauerlandkreis, to Erflinghausen near Meschede. Because the veterinary office in Soest had imposed the requirement to install a second electrified fence, as the African swine fever threatened contact with wild boars, and this contact had to be completely ruled out. But the electrified fence would not have saved us from a possible stall requirement if the African swine fever reached Germany. And in Schwefe, there were only small wooden open-stall shelters, in which the pigs could not be housed in an animal-appropriate manner if free-range farming were banned. Therefore, we reluctantly decided to find a new, secure place for our pigs, which we found in Erflinghausen near Meschede. You can find a description of the foster home Meschede under this link. The place has the great advantage that within a three-kilometer radius, there are no pig farms. If swine fever breaks out in a farm, all pigs within a kilometer are often slaughtered out of precaution… a horrifying thought. The pigs are in the stall with the same companions as on the pasture in Schwefe. Pippilotta and Hermine have the good fortune to have an entire stall compartment to themselves.

About Pippilotta

What life with Pippilotta looks like

Pippilotta is a medium-sized adult mixed breed animal waiting at Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. in Drolshagen.

Every animal has their own temperament and history. The shelter knows Pippilotta far better than any listing can convey — ask about daily routine, ideal household, and what kind of adopter they're hoping for.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pippilotta, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pippilotta?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pippilotta on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pippilotta if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pippilotta already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most animals on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pippilotta isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pippilotta and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
