Popeye

Poodle · Male · Young · 1 year

I would like a special home filled with love and kindness! I can be an only dog or live with other dogs. I have never met cats. I'd like a secure garden to potter around in. I haven't tried walks yet, a secure garden will be fine for now. I have never lived in a home so I will need help to learn house training. Please read my information below. 05-11-26 Popeye is a very special boy who has come to us from a breeder ready to find his forever home. When Popeye first arrived, we were a little concerned about him as his spatial awareness didn't seem to be great and he could sometimes bump into things. He has spent the last few weeks under assessment and though initially there were some concerns about his vision and hearing, Popeye has visited the vet a few times and no obvious abnormalities or neurological issues were noted. He is affectionately described by those who know him as sometimes being "away with the fairies" but as no obvious clinical signs have been noted, we feel that he is ready to find his forever home. His adopters will need to continue to monitor him, alongside their vet and be aware that should any clinical signs present in future, they would be classed as pre-existing and not covered by insurance. He also has a Grade 2 luxating patella in his right hind leg and as a result can sometimes skip or hop when he walks. This will also need to be monitored by his adopters and should he require any treatment in future, it would not be covered by insurance. Popeye is the sweetest boy and doesn't let anything slow him down. Although he can be a little worried, he is an affectionate and gentle soul and is coming more and more out of his shell each day. He is happy to approach us for attention and enjoys a gentle fuss too. Popeye is looking for a loving home with adopters who have plenty of time to spend with him and will allow him to settle in at his own pace. He will benefit from adopters who have experience with dogs and we would consider homing him with dog savvy teenagers 13+. In the right circumstances, we would consider homing him as an only dog as long as his adopters were around most of the time. He would also be happy to share his home with another playful resident dog. He can be a little much for some dogs sometimes so it would be important that any resident dog was laid back and wouldn't mind a cheeky young boy following them around and trying to play with them. Popeye has never lived in a home before, so he will need to learn all about home life including new skills like house training and how to walk on a lead. His new family will need to be patient and understanding, helping him navigate these new experiences at his own pace. Popeye is a very special boy who deserves a loving, understanding family willing to give him the time and support he needs to thrive. Popeye has been given the Gift of Life by Lynn McClory This dog can be homed with a resident dog.

About Popeye

What life with Popeye looks like

Popeye is a young adult poodle dog waiting at Many Tears Animal Rescue in United Kingdom.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Popeye, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Popeye?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Many Tears Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Popeye on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Popeye if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Many Tears Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Popeye already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Popeye isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Many Tears Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Popeye and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
