Pumba

Male · Adult · 6 years

Pumba is one of the few dogs in the animal shelter whose history we know. And as always... it's not a beautiful story. The previous caregiver had to give up Pumba, she had to give him up, even though he trusted no one but her. She had no choice, so Pumba came to us. While living in the house, he was a dog forced to defend his caregiver, attacking people who tried to approach his human. When someone visited his home, Pumba had to be in the crate. The beginning at the animal shelter was difficult for him, but he quickly accepted and fell in love with two caretakers. Over time, it got better and better! Pumba currently accepts many people, with whom he gladly goes for walks. He happily meets new volunteers, allows himself to be brushed and petted, and is fully manageable. When Pumba gets to know someone, he turns into a loyal and loving teddy bear who craves closeness. At the moment, he does not accept other dogs, he is able to pass them by from a distance. The adoption process for Pumba will certainly take longer than a typical process, because Pumba needs to build a really strong bond with his future caregiver. However, we can confidently say that it's worth it. Pumba is a wonderful dog who can become a loving family member. He loves brushing, petting, playing, running, but the most important thing for Pumba is the person. We are looking for a home without children and other animals, because his home should be as stable and routine-filled as possible, without too many stimuli. Pumba will definitely need boundaries and slowly introduced to the world he hasn't fully discovered and felt safe in yet. We are looking for a forever home where he can spend his peaceful old age in health and a sense of security, without too many changes, until the end with his family.

My jednak śmiało możemy powiedzieć, że warto. Ola 505173322 Sylwia 786171572

About Pumba

What life with Pumba looks like

Pumba is a large adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires gradual socialization and boundary setting. Needs stable, routine-based environment without excessive stimuli.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pumba, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pumba?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pumba on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pumba if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pumba already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pumba isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pumba and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
