Richard

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

♂, born around 2023unsicher-braucht Vertrauen-liebenswertRichard is a ca. 2023 born Podenco-mixed-breed male dog with a shoulder height of ca. 68 cmRichard came to the animal shelter in Manzanares/Spain in April 2024. He was completely terrified, shy, and unsure. It's hard to think about what was done to him. Now, the shelter staff have won his trust, and Richard greatly enjoys their company, even the affection and cuddles. When he finds his trusted person, he is very loving and trusting. However, he still has fear of new people he doesn't know. It takes patience, calmness, and time to build and strengthen that trust. Richard is a rather quiet dog who likes to nap in the sun or chill with fellow animals. He is currently being taught to walk on a leash with a harness, and he does it quite well. Of course, he still needs the basic dog training, house training, and being left alone; all at his own pace and with much loving consistency to offer him security. Also, a rural home should be considered. Since Richard is overwhelmed by the city's stimuli, a more rural home is sought where he can flourish and have the 100th family connection. Children should already be in a young age, as Richard would be further unsettled by infants. How Richard reacts to cats or other small animals cannot be said; but since Podencos are hunting dogs, they should not be in his new home. Richard is not an easy-going dog, and experience with anxious dogs is advantageous. Richard is vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, and tested for Mediterranean diseases and is being rehomed. He is located at the animal shelter in Manzanares/Spain. The adoption fee for Richard is 460 Euro. Would you like to give Richard a new home? About Richard

What life with Richard looks like

Richard is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. in Berlin.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Richard, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Richard?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Richard on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Richard if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Richard already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Richard isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Richard and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
