Adopt Riko

Mixed Breed · Male

Riko is a dog who has everything it takes to become a fantastic sporting partner. He is great at retrieving, is strongly motivated to work, nicely returns toys for "trade," and has a real talent for frisbee — energy, desire, and very nice jumps. In the right hands, he can really shine ✨ However, he is also a dog whose life has taught him to cope on his own… even when he didn't quite know how. That's why safety is crucial for him today. When he has a calm and clear guide by his side, Riko thrives and shows his best side. Without support, he becomes anxious, which can lead to unwanted reactions — that's why it's so important to have someone who can guide him wisely and consistently. Riko is making progress in relationships with other dogs, doesn't guard resources, and doesn't treat humans as his property. He is getting better with a leash, although urban stimuli can still excite him — he might pull, get distracted, or panic when scared. This is an area that a new caregiver will need to pay attention to. In his current temporary home, he lives with children and other animals — horses and goats. With children, he is gentle and sensitive, although very loud ones may excite him. The animals on the premises are accepted by him and he can function next to them without tension. At home, he doesn't like being left alone, but he is getting better at being without a person by his side on the yard — this is a big step forward. You can see how hard he tries and how beautifully he is changing. Riko loves quiet areas, regularity, clear rules, and of course active walks, which will allow him to burn off energy and build confidence. With the right person, you can create a really special relationship — based on work, trust, and shared joy. He really needs this and is very much looking forward to it ❤️ —- DOG'S METRICS —- 🧮 Birth year: 09/2021 🚻 Gender: male 🐾 Size: medium around 20kg 🏀 Activity: medium/large ❤️ neutered: yes ℹ️ Chip: yes 💉 Vaccinations: yes ✅ dog is under the care of the Tricity branch of the Foundation for Puppies Judyta ✅ dog is in a temporary home in the Tricity area ✅ Adoption obligation: filling out the questionnaire, pre-adoption visit, and signing the adoption contract ✅ LINK TO QUESTIONNAIRE:

About Riko

What life with Riko looks like

Riko is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Fundacja Judyta dla Psiego Losu in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Riko, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Riko?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fundacja Judyta dla Psiego Losu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Riko on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Riko if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fundacja Judyta dla Psiego Losu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Riko already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Riko isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fundacja Judyta dla Psiego Losu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Riko and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
