Rudi

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 11 years

Rudi (born 06/2015, but probably closer to ~2018) is a sweet, gentle and easygoing older gentleman who is increasingly showing just how much trust he has in him. He warms up quickly to strangers. He comes running up wagging his tail and visibly enjoys every bit of closeness. He also happily accepts treats. Rudi is simply a precious treasure who shows himself to be completely friendly, warm and open. Rudi gets along great with other dogs. He has no problems with cats either. If there is ever trouble in the pack, he prefers to stay out of it and withdraws. In larger groups, however, he feels less comfortable. Many people and loud noises can unsettle him, which is why he prefers a quieter environment.Rudi passionately loves going for walks, and he walks very politely on the leash, often even heeling. Sometimes, however, he has a mind of his own: when he decides it's time for a break, he is hard to convince to keep going and only continues his walk once he has finished his breather. In everyday life, Rudi is pleasantly uncomplicated. He is housetrained, has not destroyed anything so far, and is overall very easygoing. His favorite pastimes are walks, good food, sleeping and time with his people. He would especially enjoy a fenced-in garden, because he loves spending time there.Regarding his age: he was first identified in summer 2023. At that time he was estimated to be 8 years old, which is why, according to his passport, he was born on 02.06.2015. Today Rudi is estimated to be about three years younger. Legally, the registered date of birth must be used. For Rudi we wish for a quiet, rather rural home with people who give him the time he needs to build trust. Several getting-to-know-you meetings would be advisable so that Rudi can get to know his future people at his own pace. Whoever gives him this time will gain a gentle and loyal companion who now shows his joy with a happily wagging tail.Note: We love our seniors just as much as all of our dogs. The standard protection fee of 485 euros also applies to our older dogs. However, veterinary costs of up to 250 € can be submitted to the association once. We are happy to cover these costs in that case.Rudi is neutered and will be vaccinated, microchipped and placed with a protection contract after a positive preliminary check.Wearing a safety harness is required when collecting the dog. Such a harness (3 straps) can be purchased for only 25 €.

Rudi (geb.

About Rudi

What life with Rudi looks like

Rudi is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rudi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rudi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rudi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rudi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Rudi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rudi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rudi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
