Rusty

Podenco · Female

Rusty is a sweet natured girl who was rescued from a Pererra. She went to live in a home that had a cat for a short period (not arranged through us) but got a bit excited and would chase the cat on occasion which meant the adopter felt it wasn’t the right match. As such, we don’t consider her suitable for cats. She is now in a foster home in Spain with other dogs and children and she is doing really well. She is a happy, playful and cheeky young podenco. She could live as an only dog, or with other dogs and we could also home her with children given her previous experience. She’s a good allrounder so could happily live in lots of different types of homes. Rusty will be neutered, is vaccinated and snap tested negative for Mediterranean diseases. She is passported and available for adoption now. If you would prefer to make a one off donation, please click below

About Rusty

What life with Rusty looks like

Rusty is a adult podenco dog waiting at Hope for Podencos in Albacete.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rusty, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rusty?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hope for Podencos handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rusty on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rusty if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hope for Podencos will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rusty already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rusty isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hope for Podencos early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rusty and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
