Sammi

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

Sammi could live with children aged 10+. She will require outdoor access. Sammi is a sweet young girl who although shy, has a friendly and affectionate nature. Sammi sadly came in to the shelter with her litter of kittens. She was a great mam, who looked after her kittens well but she found it very stressful and would hiss at the staff if they approached, choosing to hide away in her safe space. Now Sammi’s kittens are older and have been separated, Sammi is much more relaxed now her responsibilities have eased! Her confidence is increasing day by day and she’s now enjoying exploring the environment around her. Sammi now actively seeks out human affection and will give you a head bump to get your attention before rolling around on the floor! She’s discovered a love for toys and will play on her own but enjoys interactive games even more, she could chase after the bird toy all day! We feel Sammi will need an understanding home that can give her space and patience when she first arrives. She can startle easily to sudden noise so a quiet and calm environment will suit her best while her confidence continues to bloom. We have no doubt that Sammi will make a loving and playful companion in her new home, she very much deserves to find a forever family that will love, protect and adore her!

About Sammi

What life with Sammi looks like

Sammi is a young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter in Newcastle.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sammi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sammi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sammi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sammi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Sammi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sammi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sammi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
