SaRI

Dachshund · Female · Puppy · 11 months

A non-neutered Dachshund female, born September 2025, height: 23 cm | weight: 7.5 kg, children: unknown, cats: unknown, dogs: yes, vaccinated, chipped, available for adoption after suitable introduction. Sari (pronounced "Sha-ree") is a Dachshund female born in September 2025, who was surrendered to the shelter with her sister due to too many dogs in a household. She and her sister grew up in a rural area in a house and garden with their parents and siblings. The animals were always well cared for, but socialization was somewhat neglected. They only knew their parents and siblings and were always in their own house and garden. They are still a bit reserved around strangers, but are warming up to us every day. We are now showing them at a pace that is right for them that there is a world outside the garden fence. Dachshund-typically, they are quite curious and open to their environment. However, it will take some time for them to relax. According to the previous owner, they destroyed things when left alone, and it is still difficult for them to be separated from their people at the shelter. It can be trained, but it will take some time. A confident second dog could be a support. The two girls have first experienced a harness and leash with us. We would look for a more peaceful home in a rural area with patient people for Sari.

About SaRI

What life with SaRI looks like

SaRI is a puppy/kitten dachshund dog waiting at Tierheim Dechanthof in Mistelbach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting SaRI, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about SaRI?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Dechanthof handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw SaRI on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt SaRI if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Dechanthof will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is SaRI already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if SaRI isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Dechanthof early rather than rehoming privately; they know SaRI and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
