Scotty

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Young · 3 years

In Malaga, our friends from La Sonrisa Peluda found a lovable gentleman in September 2023, tied to a street lamp, waiting for his owner to return and take him home. Scotty (the name fit well, as our heartbreaker is indeed a true Scottish Terrier) was very sad to be left out like that, and it took some time for the actually quite sympathetic and rather lively eight-year-old to regain his joy. His experienced foster home helped and continues to help him, where he is being prepared for his journey to a real family, with other dogs. Scotty is eight years old (as of February 2024), certainly not a young dog anymore, but since he is small, he also does not belong to the old pack yet. He is, so to speak, a distinguished gentleman in his prime, seeking a new sphere of influence. Scotty’s temporary home describes the handsome houseguest as “typically a Terrier,” so he is brave, sovereign, has his own mind, and is really clever and eager to learn (if he feels like it). Our Highlander lives in a pack and gets along very well with the other dogs. Children do not bother Scotty, but they should know that our Scot is not a toy and at eight years old also needs retreats that should be respected. In principle, Scotty simply needs children whose parents have explained how to behave with other living beings – if that is given, Scotty loves people of all sizes and genders equally, but he takes the time to get to know his new friends gentlemanly before he shows off his ball-playing side. Scotty is a balanced, lovable companion for Terrier fans who want to give him many more beautiful years.

About Scotty

What life with Scotty looks like

Scotty is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Scotty, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Scotty?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Scotty on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Scotty if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Scotty already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Scotty isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Scotty and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
