Selma, a 54 kg Middle Asian Shepherd, is in need of a new home. Her previous owner passed away, and her children, living abroad, brought her to their new home. Unfortunately, they were unable to bring her along due to her size. Selma had previously lived outdoors and was unfamiliar with a collar and leash. She is a free-spirited dog that enjoyed long walks in a large, fenced property. Her relatives assure that she is not aggressive, although she has been known to occasionally knock guests off their feet when greeting them. Selma's size is impressive, and in the first few days and weeks, she experienced shock from the sudden changes in her life. The collar and leash intimidated her, and she would not budge from the enclosure. We had to teach her to walk on a leash step by step, just like a small child. In the first day, we walked 3 meters in 20 minutes, with one person pushing her from behind. After a week, we could slowly walk halfway to the walking area, and after two weeks, we could take her to the walking area. When we decided to take Selma on a walk in the forest for the first time, we used two leashes with two people, as we had no idea how she would react to people, other dogs, and whether we would have enough strength to hold her. Everything went smoothly, and now Selma goes on walks with physically strong volunteers. We are looking for a home for Selma with responsible owners. As the days go by, we feel that Selma is starting to protect her favorite people. If our assumption is correct, Selma is starting to exhibit the behavior characteristic of her breed. Middle Asians are very territorial dogs, they protect their people, and at the same time, they are very gentle with their family members. Their innate wisdom allows them to love and respect older people and feel safe in the company of children, protecting all small animals from predators. However, to enjoy this fantastic character, Selma's new owners must be experienced and knowledgeable in "dog care". Selma needs a private home (she tolerates indoor spaces with her teeth clenched, just like the collar and leash); if there is no fence (but even if there is) - an enclosure is mandatory for the safety of visitors. Vidusāzijas aitu sunītei Selmai saimnieks miris; ārzemēs dzīvojošie bērni mazizmēra sunīšus pārveda uz jauno dzīvesvietu, 54 kg smago skaistuli diemžēl līdzi ņemt nevarēja. Turklāt Selma iepriekš radusi dzīvot tikai ārā un pilnībā nepazina kaklasiksnu un pavadu. Bija, tā teikt, brīvā pļavu meita, špacierējot pa lielo, iežogoto īpašumu. Radinieki dievojās, ka sunītei agresija nepiemīt: lai arī ne pārāk bieži, tomēr ik pa laikam iegriežoties Latvijā pie tēva, vienīgais, ko Selma viesiem varējusi nodarīt — priecājoties uzlekt un nogāzt no kājām. Selmas izmēri ir respektējami… Pirmajās dienās un pat nedēļā sunīte piedzīvoja šoku no pēkšņajām pārmaiņām dzīvē, turklāt apliktā kaklasiksna un pavada viņu stindzināja. Ne par ko nevarējām pierunāt kaut soli spert ārā no voljera. Selma tikai mūsos lūkojās ar izmisuma pilnu skatienu, neizdvešot ne skaņu — ne rūca, ne zobus rādīja, ne aprēja. Divu nedēļu garumā kā mazam bērnam soli pa solim mācījām viņu iet pavadā. Pirmajā dienā 20 minūšu laikā tika noieti 3 metri, pie beigām vienam vēl suni stumjot no pakaļgala. Pēc nedēļas jau varējām lēnā garā aiziet pusceļā līdz pastaigu laukumam, pēc divām — jau pilnībā aizvest uz to. Kad pirmo reizi lēmām pamēģināt ar Selmu doties pastaigā uz mežu, tad gan likām divas pavadas ar diviem cilvēkiem, jo mums nebija nojausmas, kā viņa var reaģēt uz mežā satiktiem cilvēkiem, citiem suņiem un vai maz mums pietiks spēka noturēt. Viss norisinājās bez piedzīvojumiem un nu jau Selma pastaigās dodas ar fiziski spēcīgiem brīvprātīgajiem. Smukulei meklējam mājas ar tiešām atbildīgiem saimniekiem. Jo dienas, jo iedzīvojoties patversmē, mums liekas, ka Selma savus mīļākos kopējus sāk sargāt. Un, ja mūsu pieņēmums ir pareizs, tad Selmai sāk izpausties šķirnei raksturīgā uzvedība. Vidusāzieši ir ļoti teritoriāli suņi, savus cilvēkus mēdz sargāt, vienlaikus esot ļoti maigi pret saviem ģimenes locekļiem; iedzimtā dzīvesgudrība tiem ļauj mīlēt un cienīt vecāka gadagājuma cilvēkus, suņi droši jūtas bērnu sabiedrībā, aizsargā visus mazos dzīvniekus no plēsējiem. Bet, lai šo fantastisko raksturu izbaudītu, Selmas jaunajiem cilvēkiem ir jābūt pieredzējušiem un zinošiem “suņkopībā”. Selmai mājas meklējam privātmājā (iekštelpas Selma piecieš ar sakostiem zobiem, tāpat kā kaklasiksnu un pavadu); ja nav sētas (bet pat ja ir) — obligāts voljers ciemiņu drošības dēļ.
