Shadow

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy

Shadow arrived in branch on 1st October 2026 after being surrendered. Shadow was living in smaller accommodation and despite plenty of outdoor time, Shadow struggled in this environment. We have been given an extensive overview about Shadow from his previous owner to help him find the perfect match. Since arriving, Shadow has been a very playful dog while with us. He is a highly people-orientated, affectionate and intelligent dog who thrives on routine, companionship and clear expectations. He has developed an odd gait while walking and we are monitoring this with vets. Because of this we are not booking in visits with him just yet. However, please read on regarding other aspects of Shadow while we get him better. ——– He forms strong bonds with people and is happiest when included in day-to-day family life. Within the home he is calm, settled and responsive, learning routines and household expectations quickly when they are applied consistently. Shadow reliably responds to his name. He also recognises and responds to a number of commonly used affectionate nicknames, including: – Puppa – Shadow Puppakins Shadow responds to both verbal commands and established hand signals. Consistent use of these signals may improve communication, particularly in distracting environments. Recall **Verbal Cue:** “Come” or his name. **Hand Signal:** Two fingers extended from the right hand and moved forwards away from the body. A double whistle or double tut is often effective at gaining his attention before a recall command is given. Sit **Verbal Cue:** “Sit” **Hand Signal:** Closed fist. Down **Verbal Cue:** “Down” **Hand Signal:** Two fingers held horizontally and lowered towards the ground. Wait **Verbal Cue:** “Wait” **Hand Signal:** Open palm facing forwards. Shadow understands this cue well and will often sit automatically when asked to wait. When calm and able to focus, Shadow is capable of walking beside and slightly behind the handler when given the “Walk” command and associated hand signal. He has been taught to stop and sit when pedestrians, runners or cyclists are approaching or passing. The expectation is that he remains stationary whilst they pass before being released to continue walking using the “Walk On” command. Shadow understands this routine well and will often offer the sit automatically when he recognises the situation. This routine has been used consistently and has generally encouraged calm and polite behaviour around members of the public. It should be noted that the reliability of loose lead walking is heavily influenced by his level of arousal and the surrounding environment. Whilst he is capable of walking calmly beside a handler, this behaviour becomes significantly less reliable once he becomes excited or overly focused on external stimuli. He also has positive reactions and experiences with the groomers, vets and travels in the car well using a back seat restraint. He is highly food motivated. There is further information regarding Shadow’s habits and routines which can be be discussed if required, such as sleeping, treat and toy preferences. Shadow’s main dislikes can be other dogs, he can become overstimulated and aroused quite quickly, therefore Shadow will most likely prefer to be the only dog in the household. He is also incredibly strong so will need a robust harness and lead and a strong owner to help manage any pulling on walks, especially around other dogs. Shadow would not be suitable for a household with small children due to an accidental knocking over in regards to high arousal and strength.

About Shadow

What life with Shadow looks like

Shadow is a small puppy mixed breed dog waiting at RSPCA Lincolnshire Mid & Lincoln Branch in United Kingdom.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Shadow, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Shadow?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RSPCA Lincolnshire Mid & Lincoln Branch handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Shadow on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Shadow if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — RSPCA Lincolnshire Mid & Lincoln Branch will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Shadow already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Shadow isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RSPCA Lincolnshire Mid & Lincoln Branch early rather than rehoming privately; they know Shadow and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
