Shona &#8211

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

Shona is a charming Beagle-Mix female dog born on October 11, 2021. With a practical shoulder height of 42 cm and her loving nature, she conquers hearts in no time. Shona is neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped, but unfortunately, she tested positive for leishmaniasis. Our partners acted quickly and Shona received leishmaniasis treatment with Glucantime; she is currently being treated with Allopurinol. This is only a measure to keep the disease symptom-free. The medication is affordable and can usually be discontinued after a few months. Leishmaniasis is a parasitic disease transmitted by the bite of infected sandflies. Symptoms can vary and include skin lesions, weight loss, and weakness. The disease is treatable but not curable. Regular checks are essential, but many LM dogs lead completely normal lives. Shona has been at ArcoNatura in Linares since November 2024 and shows herself to be very calm, loving, and social there. She is friendly with people and other dogs but is not one of the boundless energy bundles that still run wild in the hottest Spanish sun. Shona is now searching for a loving home where she receives the affection and care she deserves. Dogs with leishmaniasis benefit from a calm and stress-free environment, so we are looking for patient, calm people who enjoy walking. Shona loves spending time with her people and is delighted by every pat and attention she receives. She is a very clingy female dog who quickly adapts to new environments and people. Her friendly and gentle nature makes her an ideal family dog that also gets along well with children. If you are looking for a beautiful, reliable, and loving companion who enjoys life despite health challenges, Shona is definitely worth a second look. She eagerly awaits a home where she will be loved and cared for.

About Shona &#8211

What life with Shona &#8211 looks like

Shona &#8211 is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Shona &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Shona &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Shona &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Shona &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Shona &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Shona &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Shona &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
