Sjoekie

Beagle · Male · Adult · 5 years

Sjoekie is a sweet 9.5-year-old Beagle looking for a peaceful and quiet home where he can enjoy his golden years. Sjoekie is a true Beagle, and during walks, his nose is always busy. He enjoys every scent he encounters. He walks nicely on a leash. Unfortunately, long walks are no longer possible for Sjoekie, as he is getting older. Shorter, quiet walks where he can sniff around are a better fit for him. Recently, Sjoekie visited a physiotherapist because we noticed he was moving stiffly. The examination revealed that he was quite tense, especially in his neck, which limited his mobility. He has had several treatments, and we think it's good for him to continue with these treatments from his new owner. We recommend that his future owner take him to a veterinary physiotherapist for a treatment once every quarter. This way, we hope he can remain as flexible and comfortable as possible in his old age. Sjoekie generally reacts well to other animals. In the past, he lived with cats. He could also get along well with children. Of course, it's always important to introduce him in a calm and pleasant way. Sjoekie can stay home alone for a few hours after getting used to it. It's also important for his new owners to know that Sjoekie eats special Hill's Biome food. He eats this because he had stomach/intestinal problems in the past. These are now gone, but he will have to continue with this food. Due to these stomach/intestinal problems, Sjoekie also had a low B12 value. He received injections, and this value will be checked soon. Given his current, fit, condition, we expect this value to be completely normal again. Who will give this sweet, older Beagle a peaceful and loving home where he can sniff, enjoy, and just be himself?

NL·Show original

About Sjoekie

What life with Sjoekie looks like

Sjoekie is an adult beagle dog waiting at Dierenopvangcentrum Breda in Breda.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sjoekie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sjoekie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenopvangcentrum Breda handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sjoekie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sjoekie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenopvangcentrum Breda will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Sjoekie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sjoekie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenopvangcentrum Breda early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sjoekie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
