Smiley

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 2 years

PS Nordkirchen, born 25.04.2024, male dog, in PS since 05/25, Smiley was allowed to travel to Germany in February and move into his foster home, unfortunately, the family's living circumstances changed so much that the mixed breed had to move into a pension, and now he is searching for his forever home from there. Smiley is a gentle giant who loves humans more than anything and does his best to please. He enjoys his cuddle time to the fullest. The handsome fellow is approachable and can be corrected, but he still tests his limits from time to time and therefore still needs some training. However, his previous foster home worked a lot with him, so there is a good foundation to build upon. Smiley also likes to run sometimes, so a large garden or a nearby dog walk should be available in his new home. Driving a car is no problem for him either. For Smiley, we wish for experienced dog owners who enjoy teaching the young pup the complete dog 101. He is loyal to his humans but still has a few insecurities about unfamiliar dogs, so he would likely be happy to become the prince of the family, unless the existing dog is very sovereign. Children should be in a stable age, as Smiley is still a bit clumsy and cannot fully control his limbs yet. We wish for the dear boy a more rural home with an enclosed garden. Smiley has a microchip and is fully vaccinated, dewormed, treated against parasites, and tested for Mediterranean diseases. Of course, you can visit Smiley at his pension! Would you like to get to know the lovely Smiley? Write to us!

PS Nordkirchen, geb. Schreiben Sie uns!

About Smiley

What life with Smiley looks like

Smiley is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierhilfe Fuerteventura in Dransfeld.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Smiley, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Smiley?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Fuerteventura handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Smiley on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Smiley if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Fuerteventura will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Smiley already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Smiley isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Fuerteventura early rather than rehoming privately; they know Smiley and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
