Smithy

Beagle · Male · Young · 3 years

Smithy is a clever boy who enjoys his food and is picking up learning new things well, including "sit", "down" and is doing well with his recall too. Smithy can find being left alone a bit stressful and would prefer a home where someone can be with him most of the time. It's important any time being left is built up very gradually giving him plenty of time to settle in. He is also housetrained. Smithy is an almost 4 year old Beagle cross who is ready to find his forever home. This handsome boy is currently living in foster and is enjoying all the comforts of home life. Smithy loves to be active and enjoys nothing more than walkies and adventures exploring new places. He's a friendly boy who loves meeting new people, but can be a little over the top at times. He could live with primary aged children following a meeting here at the centre. Smithy is a bit of a social butterfly and enjoys making doggy pals out and about, so we think he could live with another dog in his new home. He has however decided that cats are not friends and he will chase them given the chance! Smithy would thrive with a fun loving and active family who will enjoy having Smithy along for the ride wherever the destination.

About Smithy

What life with Smithy looks like

Smithy is a young adult beagle dog waiting at Dogs Trust Kenilworth in Kenilworth.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Smithy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Smithy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Kenilworth handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Smithy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Smithy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Kenilworth will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Smithy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Smithy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Kenilworth early rather than rehoming privately; they know Smithy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
