Sully

Mastiff · Male · Adult · 4 years

Big, handsome boy Sully is a 5 year old Mastiff cross with such a chilled out attitude. He hasn’t shown an interest in toys so far, if you throw them for him he just looks at you as if to say “what am I supposed to do with that?”. He likes a fuss, he gets excited and has full body wiggles when you give him back scratches, he would climb into your lap if he would only fit. He is a foodie guy, and will take any treat offered, he takes them gently and will happily eat them sitting next to you. This gorgeous guy is ready to find his new home. Sully is looking for a home with loving and active adopters who can take him on sniffy adventures, who will take the time to help him settle in and give him all the love and attention he deserves. He is a friendly bean who could live with secondary school children who are comfortable around a larger, playful dog, who will play with him nicely and will give him space to rest when needed. Sully needs to be the only pet in the home, and adopters will need to work with our behaviour team to continue his muzzle training which he will need to wear when out on walks. Sully is a clever guy and already has some training under his belt, he does a lovely “sit”, “down” and “paw”, and is eager to engage in training in short, sweet sessions as long as a tasty treat is on offer. He would like a home with a private, secure garden for him to have some off lead time and potter about at his leisure. Sully can settle nicely in the home, so could be left for up to 4 hours, leaving time would need to be built up slowly once he has had time to settle into his new home. Sully will need to meet his adopters multiple times prior to going home so please bear all of this in mind when applying. Please note that should you be shortlisted, our rehoming process usually takes up to 7 days, and potential adopters would be required to come up to the centre to meet him within 48hrs of being shortlisted.

About Sully

What life with Sully looks like

Sully is a large adult mastiff dog waiting at Dogs Trust Canterbury in Chestfield.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sully, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sully?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Canterbury handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sully on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sully if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Canterbury will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sully already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sully isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Canterbury early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sully and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
