Sultan

Unknown Β· Adult Β· 7 years

Meet Sultan, a handsome 7-year-old Foxhound! Sultan came to us after a seizure, along with some other dogs. In the meantime, we have gotten to know him well and can only say what a pleasant dog he is! Sultan is an incredibly good, sweet and quiet dog, but he also has his playful moments. He enjoys attention and company, without being pushy. A nice, balanced dog without too much naughtiness. 😊 As a Foxhound, Sultan likes to use his nose to discover the surroundings. He also enjoys walks where he can sniff calmly and explore. A rural environment would be ideal for him. An important point of attention is his adaptation to life in the house. Sultan is mainly used to an outdoor kennel. We also do not know how he will behave in the house or how he will deal with it when he has to be alone at home. We are therefore looking for people who are willing to let him get used to domestic life calmly. He may still need to learn a few things, such as being alone at home. It is important that future adopters think about this in advance and provide enough time to guide him in this. A well-fenced garden is a requirement for Sultan, so he can also enjoy the outdoors safely at home. For Sultan, we are looking for a nice, stable home where he gets the necessary attention and care. He does not need hours of activities or complicated training, but just people who like to spend time with him and want to offer him a pleasant dog life. Sultan is a dog that makes little fuss, but all the more cosiness. ❀️ Do you think Sultan is right for you? Then fill in the adoption form.

About Sultan

What life with Sultan looks like

Sultan is a large adult dog waiting at Dierenasiel Ganzeweide in Veurne.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible β€” a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡§πŸ‡ͺAdopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sultan, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sultan?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Ganzeweide handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sultan on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sultan if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Dierenasiel Ganzeweide will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Sultan already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sultan isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Ganzeweide early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sultan and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
