Adopt Szado

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 11 years

Szado, a dog born in September 2015. Szado is a poor and disoriented dog. He arrived with his companion who dominated him at meals, so they had to be separated right away. It was clear from the start that Szado was lost and couldn't find his way in the new reality. He didn't show aggression but rather avoided all contact and hid in the kennel. It was much better for him to be on the run where he loved to walk and enjoy the space. He handles the leash okay, so there aren't too many problems with taking him out. We discovered that Szado tries to keep his distance from most dogs, especially the overly excitable ones. Even once, he chased one of them away and showed his teeth. It was clear that he values his space. However, to some calmer dogs, he would approach out of curiosity, but he usually preferred to handle his own affairs. This could be due to overall fear and lack of certainty, so his attitude might change over time. Szado needs a quiet place to get rid of his fear and shyness, best with a constant human presence. Ideally, if the poor fellow found a good home under good care, he would quickly come out of it and become the happy, well-adjusted dog he should be. Szado is neutered, de-clawed, vaccinated, and spayed.

Szado, pies urodzony we wrześniu 2015r. Szado to biedny i zdezorientowany psiak.

About Szado

What life with Szado looks like

Szado is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) in Poland.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Szado, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Szado?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Szado on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Szado if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Szado already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Szado isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Szado and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
